Before going in, please take a minute to read this introduction.
I started, in February 1997, collecting information on my ancestors and immediate family. It now seems, after hearing from researchers with years of experience, that we all descend from William Bramblett (Bramlit), Sr. He arrived in Virginia, possibly from England, sometime around 1700. So, it doesn't matter how you spell your name, we are somehow connected. You may have been told that you can't be related to that other family in town, because they spell their name with a second 'b' or they have only one 't'. I was. And now I find that my father has 1st cousins who spell their name different than he does (and they were born in the same town)! Once that idea sunk in, I began collecting information on all Bramblett, Bramlett, Bramlet, Bramblet, Bramlitt, Bramlette, etc., that I came across in census records, marriage/birth/death indexes, county histories, etc.
Since I put this web site up in April (97), I have received lots of information from researchers and I post it here as soon as I can get to it. I would like to get as much information, concerning our surname, to as many interested people as possible. To that end, I am looking for information in the following areas:
If you review the data that is already available on the pages of this web site, you will get an idea of the format that I use for posting information. I use Microsoft Word (97) and Microsoft Access (97). All of the 'formatted' records are kept in an Access data base which I then convert to web pages. The 'free-flow' stuff is kept in Word or text documents. If you have photos or 'original' documents that you would like to post and have no way to scan them, you can mail them to me. I will scan and post them and return the originals to you.
Though the primary purpose of this web page is to post 'raw' data, I will post your descendants charts if you have a tie-in to the William Sr chart already on the site. I will limit it those with a birthdate before 1921 (unless there is also a deathdate). This is an effort to prevent the posting of information on living individuals. If there is no birthdate listed, there is the possibility of living persons being posted to the web site. You can send the file in GEDCOMM or Family Tree Maker format (I use 8.0).
In any case, if you have information that you would like to donate and have questions about the best way to send it, contact mike--AT--bramblett.com first so that we can make arrangements.
I would also appreciate a note in the Forum, or a quick e-mail to mike--AT--bramblett.com, especially on your first visit. Just so I can get back to you, say hello, and see if I can be of any assistance. Besides, the best part about this web site has been getting to correspond with 'cousins' that I never knew I had! And please, pass the word to family members!!
